I know I picked the Miami Heat to defeat the Oklahoma City Thunder in seven games before the NBA finals began. After what I saw last night I might be wrong. In the first half the Thunder looked sluggish and Miami jumped out to a 14 point lead. When the Thunder cut the lead to seven at the half I knew the Heat was done. In the second quarter the Thunder began to break down the Heat defense by using dribble penetration to either make a lay up or a easy dunk. Miami has no answers for Russell Westbrook or Kevin Durant. Oklahoma City’s big men Kendrick Perkins and Serge Ibaka out played Miami’s big men. Ibaka has the athletic ability to operate away from the basket and Perkins is […]
The NBA Finals series between the Miami Heat and the Oklahoma City Thunder is shaping up to be one of the most exiting in history. No series in recent memory has had the collection of open court finishers as this one. The Oklahoma City Thunder has Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and coming off the bench James Harden. The Miami Heat LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh. The winner of this series is going to be the team that limits the opponents’ hot streaks. Miami uses their defense to set the tempo offensively. They play the passing lanes aggressively and create turnovers to ignite their fast brake. Oklahoma City’s stars just are a load to handle on offense.
Wow. It has been a very busy week on the thoroughbred horse racing scene. With the Belmont Stakes, the most difficult and final leg of horse racing’s hallowed Triple Crown, going June 9, a late piece of sad news scratches the favorite. There evidently will not be an end to the 34 year Triple Crown drought, as favorite I’ll Have Another pulled out of not just this race, but of racing altogether. The 144th edition of the Belmont Stakes is losing a huge draw in the thoroughbred that has already won both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness this year, and thoroughbred racing is losing an exciting horse.
What a performance last night by LeBron James with 45 points 15 rebounds and 5 assists but this game had a familiar look. It looked like a lot of the playoff games he had with the Cavaliers especially after the first round of the playoffs. James would control the ball and the other four players would spread out and become spectators as LeBron would shoulder most of the burden on offense. I am telling you this series is not over. Boston has a veteran team and a good coach and he will come up with a game plan that can work versus the Heat. Boston’s Doc Rivers knows that LeBron can beat him individually so he will force the ball out LeBron’s hands and make Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh […]
Game six of the Eastern Conference finals will determine the future of the Miami Heat. The Heat win they come back home to play game seven and still have a chance to win the NBA title. Miami loses and there will be some big changes before next season. It’s not like the Heat need a major overhaul to improve their team just one daring move. When the current Heat team was constructed Miami decided to have three maximum contract players Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh that was a big mistake. With three maximum players in the salary cap era it puts a lot of pressure on the front office to come up with role players and a bench.
Hope is a good thing. When you have hope you can turn some difficult situations around. In sports, when you give your opposition hope that is a bad thing. The Miami Heat had a 2-0 game advantage over the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference finals and looked like they were going to cruise to the NBA finals. Then they gave the Boston Celtics hope. Last night the Heat got off to a slow start and fell behind at one point during the first half by 18 points. LeBron James kept the Heat within striking distance with a strong first half. In the second half Dwayne Wade shook off a mediocre start and started hitting some outside shots as the Heat forced overtime. Then in the overtime the Heat offense […]
The Boston Celtics showed a lot of heart in last nights 101-91 victory over the Miami Heat. Boston had balanced scoring with Kevin Garnett with 24 Paul Pierce 23 and Rajon Rondo with 21. The Celtics really needed this one because if they lost last night Miami was going to sweep them. To be honest both teams looked weary from game two that went to overtime. The Heat seemed to have the mentality that we will lay back on this one and come out firing in game four. Despite that the Heat had little production from their bench. Last night was the type of game if the bench would have come through and made the game close who knows what have happened in fourth quarter. For the Heat to win […]
Rajon Rondo put on one of the best performances in NBA playoff history last night. He scored 44 points 8 rebounds and 10 assists but, that was not good enough as the Celtics lost to Miami 105-101 in overtime. I have talked about making adjustments in the playoffs and Boston’s Doc Rivers made a big one. He decided to make Rondo the number one option in the offense and the big three of Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, and Paul Pierce secondary options. This makes sense because the Heat have players that can somewhat defend the big three but, they still have a weakness in defending elite point guards such as Rondo.
The NBA conference finals started over the holiday weekend and one series has the look of a seven game thriller and the other will not last long. The Western Conference final between San Antonio and Oklahoma City will be a barnburner. Oklahoma City was up by nine points early in the fourth period and then San Antonio scored 39 points in the final period to edge the Thunder101-98 in game one. When you see this type of a comeback it tells me one team was able to adjust and the other could not. This is where veteran leadership comes into play. San Antonio is a veteran team that has been in these situations before and Oklahoma City has not. Also San Antonio hit the key shots down the stretch to […]
The Indiana Pacers called the Miami Heat’s bluff and they got burned. The Pacers decided to play physical against the Heat and it backfired. Miami came out in the last two games and showed the Pacers how to play basketball. LeBron James and Dwayne Wade combined for 59 points last night and Mike Miller hit some key three point shots. When James and Wade are this hot there is no team in the NBA that can touch them. What was so interesting is the Pacers had balanced scoring last night and they could not keep up.
