Vegas Odds On Fiesta Bowl 2014

The Annual Fiesta Bowl actually exists because the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) champion did not receive bowl invitations from 1968, 1969 and 1970. The WAC decided, what the heck, we will create our own bowl game, and the Fiesta Bowl was born as an automatic bowl tie-in for the WAC champion every year. In 1978 that automatic WAC bowl tie-in was eliminated, and in 1998 the Fiesta Bowl landed one of the 4 coveted Bowl Championship Series spots, joining the Rose Bowl, the Sugar Bowl and the Orange Bowl. Played in the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, as a BCS partner the teams making it to this Tostitos-sponsored postseason Division I college football game receive a huge $18 million payout. As one of the 4 BCS Bowl Games, the Fiesta Bowl stadium also hosts the BCS National Championship Game one week after the Fiesta Bowl is played, doing so on a four-year rotating basis along with the Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl and Rose Bowl.

About the Fiesta Bowl

The Fiesta Bowl is contractually obligated to choose the Big 12 champion if they are not already slated for the National Championship Game, and an at-large selection through the 2013 NCAA Division I football season. And from 2007 the 2012, the state of Oklahoma was well represented, with the University of Oklahoma playing three times and OSU playing once, each team winning once. However, the Penn State Nittany Lions own both an undefeated record and the most wins in Fiesta Bowl history, making the game 6 times and winning every contest.

Arizona State, the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Nebraska Cornhuskers have all been to 6 postseason Fiesta Bowl games, with the Sun Devils winning 5 times, Ohio State compiling a 4 - 2 record, and Nebraska going 2 - 4. The Oklahoma Sooners have been five times overall, and have managed 2 victories, while Florida State, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Miami have all been to 4 Fiesta Bowl games. The Seminoles have 2 victories in their 4 trips, Notre Dame and Pittsburgh are each 1 - 3, and Miami is winless in their 4 Fiesta Bowl showdowns.

Back in 1996, the University of Nebraska and the Florida Gators combined for an incredible 521 rushing yards, and the Cornhuskers tallied 62 points on their way to beating Florida, both still Fiesta Bowl records. And every year the Fiesta Bowl selection committee does such an incredible job in choosing the two opponents that from 2003 the 2012 there were 3 overtime games, one of them going into double overtime before a victor arose. And in that same 10 year stretch 6 games were decided by a touchdown or less, 2 by a field goal, and 1 by a single point.

Every four years the Fiesta Bowl is home to the BCS National Championship Game, but every single year the Fiesta Bowl showcases two of the very best NCAA Division I college football teams against each other in a head-to-head battle that has been closely contested in recent memory. Vegas Odds On Fiesta Bowl participants generally run pretty tight, reflecting the close nature of the on-field battle. The wise college football bettor can always find value in the usually skinny Fiesta Bowl line, and the hard-fought contest is one of the most enjoyable bowl games to watch every year.
